Stray animals can find themselves in need of assistance from time to time. This mom dog (Blueberry) and her puppies were found when they critically needed help. Abandoned Blueberry was living with her newborn puppies in an orchard 25 minutes North of Bakersfield. As the area was rampant with coyotes, it was too dangerous for her and the baby pups to live there. One puppy had passed away, and Blueberry was concerned about the rest of her babies. Fortunately, they were soon rescued to a safer and more comfortable home.

In March 2021, A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue received a call about Blueberry and her three little babies. The person calling them provided the location of the dogs and said it would be easy to find. However, when the rescuers drove to the given address, they found nothing. It was not until they phoned back their contact that a more specific location was given to them. The rescuers went 60 yards to the North and finally found Blueberry.

After seeing the rescuers, the friendly mom dog couldn’t feel happier. It seemed like Blueberry had been waiting for the rescue team to come. She was a smart and responsible mother who had kept her puppies safe until the rescuers found her. The babies looked adorable and beautiful, maybe they received good nursing from their mom. Without wasting time, the team took the dog family to their car and drove them back to Bakersfield.

In the car, Blueberry and her babies felt happy. When reaching Bakersfield, the mom dog wagged her tail to express her special gratitude for the rescuers. The family had stayed with Shelia ( a member of A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue) before they were moved to Family Dog Rescue in San Francisco. At that new foster home, Blueberry loved making friends while her babies enjoyed playing together.

Soon, Blueberry was adopted by a good family. Shortly after, her puppies (Strawberry, Blackberry and Huckleberry) also found their new loving families. Such a happy ending for that lovely family! We are thankful for Sharon and Jeff for making the phone call and the rescue team for their work. Without them, no one would have known about these little souls and their mother.
